Selena

I stormed through the offices of Drakos Monroe Security & Investigations. I couldn’t remember the last time I was this enraged. No wait, I could. It was when I found out that Ocampo had killed Brendon. The passionate fury inside of me had dimmed over the last eighteen months, but it was now reignited by the note on my driver’s seat. This KT didn’t know who she was messing with. Unlucky for KT, I was about to enlighten her on the error of her ways.

I threw my backpack down on the carpet a little harder than I should have. I needed to calm down. I needed to be able to talk this through with Martina in a rational manner. I needed to center myself. I counted backwards from ten, followed by breathing exercises. I shut my eyes and placed my hands on my thighs, counted and began. In and out. In and out. My plan had been to continue until I no longer wanted to run to the shooting range, remove my gun from the locker, and go on a shooting spree.

My meditation was disturbed when I heard footsteps heading my way. I flipped my eyelids open to find Martina watching me with her brow wrinkled. "Hi there. Is everything okay?"

I shook my head back and forth. "No, not okay." I explained the break-in to my car and about the note.

"I’m so sorry that happened and I agree with you, I don’t think it was anyone related to the trafficking case. Have you made a police report?"

"Not yet. I wanted to get your take on the note. Am I overreacting to think it’s a death threat?"

Martina shook her head. "No, I don’t think you’re overreacting. You should make a police report. The note and break-in are strong evidence that this KT person needs to be put away before they hurt someone."

"Okay, I’ll call Officer Heller to let him know I’ve got another report to make."

"And if he doesn’t come by or follow through, we know who we can bring this to.” Martina added.

Friends in high places. Not a bad thing to have. "Lieutenant Tippin."

"Exactly."

"Are you going to be okay? Is there something else bothering you?"

I shrugged. "It’s all of this KT business and the potential break in the trafficking case. All the memories are flying back fast and furious. There was something about the note that seemed to push me over the edge."

Did it make me weak that I couldn’t let this go? Most of the time, I was ready for the fight, but sometimes I wished I could hide under a rock and live out my days pretending nothing bad had ever happened. But that wasn’t my fate. I was a fighter and I wouldn’t give up.

"Why don’t we grab some tea and we can talk while we wait for the police to arrive?"

I nodded.

"I’ll meet you in conference room one after you call Heller."

"Okay, thanks."

I ended the call with Officer Heller and headed toward the conference room. Martina was in the corner removing her tea bag from the mug before dropping it into the trash.
